I Want Names: REACH out to Someone

Reaching out to others around us doesn't have to be something only extroverts do. All of us as Christians can use Andrew as an example, a Biblical introvert who was the disciple that was most known for bringing people to Jesus. Time and time again, Andrew reached out and shared the salvation of Jesus Christ with everyone who approached him.

I Want Names: PRAY for Someone

Names are important, in many cases it's the first distinguishment of our identity and the last thing people remember about us. Prayer is important too. Prayer communicates our dependence on God, our comprehension that we are desperate for Gods presence and help. As we live in our neighborhoods and towns, we often assume that we know those around us, but in reality we don't know what's going on under the surface, what that neighbor really is going through and needs prayers for. Who are you praying for in your neighborhoods? I Want Names.

    Jonah: Fueled by Anger

Psalm 103:8 says The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. We love that verse when it applies to us but not our enemies. Jonah was no different. When the people of Ninevah repented and God spared them, rather than rejoicing in the grace of God, Jonah was anger, bitter and pouted to God.

    Jonah: Motivated by Pride

Many of us expect God to say stop: Stop doing this, stop doing that, just stop. But if you look through scripture often instead of saying "Stop", God often says "Go". He told Jonah to go and he did, only in the opposite direction. As Christians we all face the question, "When God says 'Go', what do you do?" More importantly, "Which way do you go, as directed or in the opposite direction"?

    Jonah: Overwhelmed by Guilt

Guilt for past mistakes often eats away at us, bringing shame to hide what we've done and fear of judgement. But with God, that's not the case. God wants to offer grace for our mistakes and take away the shame of guilt. When Jonah knew that he was the cause of the storm, out of guilt he asked to be thrown into the sea. But God didn't punish Jonah for his actions and just let him die there; instead He rescued Jonah, creating a teaching opportunity to extend grace and give Jonah a chance to run back into God's arms.

Fearing that fate will come to Jonah, he instead tries to run from God, fleeing by boat to the city of Tarshish. But as many of us find out the hard way, you cant run from God.

    Loving the Unlovely: The Unworthy

Often times people get caught up in the false gospel that there are those that are worthy and those that are unworthy of heaven. But the truth is, none of us are really worthy of such an incredible gift from God and it's only through Jesus' sacrifice that we are extended the grace of eternal life. On the cross Jesus showed us first-hand what grace really looks like, praying to God for the souls of the soldiers that beat him, the criminals hanging next to him, and even those that persecuted him.
